For months the City of West Hollywood has been waiting for the developer of the embattled Walgreens mixed-use project to sign the contract for the Environmental Impact Report and to fund the effort. It recently sent a letter to the developer giving them a February 6, 2009, deadline.
The developer requested an extension and a meeting with City officials to discuss anticipated project revisions. The City granted that request and extended the deadline to March 6, 2009. If the developer does not sign the contract and fund the EIR by that date, the project will be withdrawn by the City of West Hollywood.
We hope upon hope these ‘anticipated project revisions’ are good news. The community has met with the developers and with City officials. We spent a lot of time, money and effort in preparing comprehensive documentation of neighborhood and community concerns. It is our hope that the developers and the City will keep that community feedback in mind as they meet in the coming days.
We are ready and willing to meet further with the developer or the City at anytime. If there is new information or developments to be shared, we’d be more than happy to call a community meeting. In short, we hope there is a solution that works for the developers, the neighbors and the City.
We will keep you posted on developments – and we’ll certainly know more by March 6.
Keep an eye on nowalgreens.blogspot.com for the latest information. Please tell your interested friends and neighbors about the website and the new details.
