This is it. This is your final chance to stop Walgreens!

So many of you have been such a great support to stop Walgreens' build of their large, mixed-use complex at Santa Monica and Crescent Heights and, believe us, it's made an impact.

Thursday, January 19, this project goes before the Planning Commission for approval. If they approve this project, that's it; unless the decision is appealed. Walgreens could get a green light to start demolition and start building in less than two weeks!

This is where you come in. We strongly encourage you to attend the meeting so we can be on the record and let the City know how we feel. This could help appeal the decision and that would be a big win for us, the people - on which this country was built; now let's fix this and protect our community, ensure our safety and continue to live and thrive in our great city.

I'm sure you're probably not surprised to hear that Walgreens has largely dismissed the concerns of the neighborhood and the community after receiving the final Environmental Impact Report (EIR). If you think we have a traffic problem now, wait till Walgreens builds their big-box drug store PLUS other retail PLUS 20 apartments on top of that. You don't have to be a traffic engineer to know that this is going to have a major impact on our community.

Again, we appreciate your support and ask you to give it one last push. It ain't over till it's over.

The property for this proposed project to build a Super-Walgreen's doesn't seem suitable for their plans. I am guessing undeground paking but still too close to a residential neighborhood.

I guess that old saying is true, If you can't build out, build up.

Just curious if they plan to rent the doughnut shop & other shops currently there space inside this Walgreen's-Mega-Complex If these businesses can afford to rent space and stay afloat

Johnny, thanks for your comment. Not sure but we suspect the rent would be much higher than it is currently. It would be difficult for our local donut shop and dry cleaner to stay in business. Plus our sense is that the developers are looking for more high end specialty retailers; perhaps art galleries? Not sure.we think that because they are planning a "sky park" for these retailers to use for private events. Call us crazy but we don't think the donut shop and dry cleaners would host a lot of cocktail parties.

I missed the meeting. I was out of town. But I am concerned resident near Fountain and Laurel and I want to help stop the Walgreens, what can I do?

Unfortunately the City Council approved it last night. Not much else we can do but try and work with the developers to try and minimize anything that would impact our immediate community.
